Kids Foraging Walk
Join us for an afternoon of nature exploration and creation at Hempstead Lake State Park where families will learn how to slow down, look closely at plants and learn the basics of plant identification as well as ethical collection methods.
We’ll use our senses of sight, smell, and touch to carefully explore local plants that grow all around us.Participants will learn the basics of safe and ethical foraging, plant identification and names, how to harvest in a way that protects the ecosystem, and why it’s important to leave plenty behind for wildlife and future growth.
After learning these important practices we will take part in a plant collection & scavenger hunt. The materials collected will be use to make anthotype sun prints that will develop using the sun!
This family-friendly activity is perfect for curious kids and parents interested in learning more about the useful plants growing right in our local landscape.
